Reading Ledger

A small reference notebook

Make a reference easy to find

Use clear names

A useful reference title names its subject in ordinary words. Add an author, date or edition when those details distinguish similar material. A folder full of clear names remains easier to browse than one that depends entirely on remembering when each file was saved.

Connect related notes

Link two notes when the relationship can be explained in a sentence. Say whether one supplies an example, asks a question or disagrees with the other. A small number of explained links helps a reader choose where to go next without following a long list blindly.

Review the collection

A reference collection benefits from occasional review. Keep material that answers a recurring question, correct a misleading title and remove a duplicate when its place is clear. The aim is a collection that supports reading, with enough context to make each item useful.
